cinématographie de la matière virtuelle
Cinematography of Virtual Matter is a working title I used in 2022, 2023, and 2024 to document the development of a real-time creation tool designed for spatializing 3D objects within a virtual universe.
To access my virtual universes, I rely on a camera that observes and explores this dimension. This parametric camera serves as an instrument to sculpt how the subject is viewed. It simulates the imperfections of a real optical device, incorporating characteristics that have gradually shaped the cinematic language. These include, for instance, shallow depth of field, bokeh, or lens flares.
Enhanced with a parametric lighting system, my virtual studio allows me to present 3D objects made dynamic through the creation of animated shaders. I aim to achieve a fluid, transitory materiality that oscillates between evoking real-world matter and dissolving into abstraction. The ambiguity and strangeness emerging from these transitional states define what I describe as virtual matter.
Over the years, each creative or exhibition project has provided an opportunity to test and refine the evolution of this real-time creation system in various contexts. Collaborations with different partners have further contributed to the development and fine-tuning of this cinematography of virtual matter.
